Russian Game Publishers: Outpacing Mobile Gaming Market

App Annie's latest research claims that game publishers across Russia, The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and the Baltic region are rapidly growing their revenue.

Four of them «grow faster than the overall mobile gaming market in the past year» — says App Annie. For instance, Ukranian company Murka increased its revenue in Q2 2016 more than eightfold compared to Q2 2015. Russian game publishers Playrix and Pixonic managed to grow their revenue at least four times over the same time period. Belarusian Awem, although its Cradle of Empires performed much better on iOS than on Android, also outperformed the global market.

Playrix became the first Russian publisher to be ranked as a top-20 game publisher by revenue globally in 2016 after launching three successful hits: Township, Fishdom and Gardenscapes. App Annie connects this success with the Playrix' ability to self-publish titles in Asia — a difficult market to enter without assistance.

The second competitor, Murka, found its short way to the higher echelon with the successful release of two slots: Scatter Slots and Infinity Slots. However, App Annie founds the sustainability of that growth questionable. Mainly, because world’s top publishers have strong, established brands. And now Murka has to outperform them — if it wants to advance further.

Another Russian competitor, Pixonic, wasn't presented in top-12 regional leaders last year. But the international success of War Robots propelled it to #8 by revenue. It is noticeable that Pixonic even managed to outpace a big player in Russia, Mail.Ru Group.

Lithuanian Game Insight is also mentioned in the research. Its Android version of The Tribez: Build a Village «is a recent solid performer to keep an eye on».
